Who I Help
High-Functioning Anxiety and Perfectionism Help
Are you a high energy, get it all done sort of person who sometimes has trouble letting go and relaxing? Do you find yourself waking up in the middle of the night and having trouble turning off your brain? I love to help people with high-functioning anxiety and perfectionism issues. As a "recovering perfectionist" myself, I tend to really get where these folks are coming from.
This work is all about understanding the drive that makes you to do great at what you do without letting it keep you up at night or turning you injury-proned. I help you embrace yourself and your story fully so that you can live your best life to the fullest.
Many of my clients have tried therapy before (& not been helped)
Maybe they got some relief initially or took away one or two things that really help. However, the same old anxieties or feelings of depression quickly creep back in. I often hear that our work together feels different somehow. I love seeing my clients heal and begin to thrive.
This is particularly rewarding when someone has struggled with something intense for quite some time--maybe PTSD or feeling completely burned out. I tend to dig deep (if that's where you want to go) and don't scare easily. Plus, I have the experience and training to know I'm good at what I do.
No, I don't do couples counseling, but still a significant amount of people come to me because they want help with a tough, out-of-the-box-type relationship issue. Often the negative patterns we play out in our relationships are due to unresolved trauma, of some sort, or the relationship is just hard because it's not your typical situation.
For example, let's say you were adopted or your parent was inattentive for whatever reason--alcoholism, workaholic, or some trauma in their own history. When kids go through these experiences (or attachment wounds, as we call them in the therapy world), they learn to protect themselves. Maybe you protected yourself with perfectionism or by pleasing others. But what protected you then is getting in the way of you now setting healthy boundaries or saying how you really feel. My work helps you sort all this through so that you can give 100% to your current relationships.
Additionally, many relationships are complex and do not come with instructions. Maybe you're involved in an open adoption and are wondering how to navigate those waters. Maybe you're involved in an open relationship and need help figuring out (and voicing) your boundaries. My office is a non-judgmental, neutral place to sort through what works best for you in these complex, out-of-the-box relationships.
I work well with people from all kinds of backgrounds and beliefs
My clients are all unique. Some are spiritual; some are not. Straight/queer, in a relationship or not, from able-bodied to wheelchair-bound...my clients come from all walks of life. I love that! I am honored that so many different types of people have found help and safety within my office.
What links my clients together is usually a little more internal. My clients are driven and really seeking after a life that fulfills them, but something just keeps getting in the way. Even though it may look like they've got everything they could want on paper, there is something missing or holding them back.
